“A Blank Sheet of Paper” by Ang Wen Shu, Crystal

Description: The poem centers on the event of writing a letter to a significant other. Letters are one of the most personal forms of communication in today’s world of instant messaging but are also one of the most difficult things to write. What should one include or exclude? Ultimately, what is to be said will be said, and the only consideration whether the process is easy or rough.

a blank sheet of paper my blood is the ink scrawled illegibly across uneven lines wavering with emotions
you read a part of me with each letter I send yet I compose hundreds more in the crevices of my mind
if I am lucky, the words come to me like the flutter of leaves in a draught but if I am not, rip my skin apart, drain the veins and distill my essence into wine fit for drinking.
